Q: What is Funkprobosci?
A: A proboscis ain’t nothin’ but a “nose”. Seems Sir Nose D’Voidoffunk has got his nose all up in George Clinton’s bizness these daze…  More info here.

Q: Mommy, What’s a George Clinton?
A: Cultural icon George Clinton is the singer/songwriter, bandleader/producer and overall Maggot-Overlord of Parliament/Funkadelic – the ultimate O.G. mega mash-up, uber-alternative rock band. P-Funk streams authentic sounds of old-school Doo-Wop, laced with sprawling James Brown, invigorated with psychedelic guitar laden rants and bombarded with street-level (not-just knee-deep) beats.

Known as the DNA of Hip-Hop, the ceaseless innovation of this paradigm shifting, Rock & Roll Hall of Famer has been giving up the Funk to trillions of dedicated Funkateers for over half a century.

Q: How does George feel about artists sampling P-Funk music?
A: Not a problem. They just need to acknowledge the sample and go through the appropriate steps to get it cleared before the track is released. Otherwise they’re set up to get extorted.

Q: Does George only let artists he likes sample? Is there preferential treatment?
A: No. It’s everybody’s music.

Q:  Have artists that sampled P-Funk been overcharged by their labels for that usage?
A: Most likely, due to Universal and Bridgeport Music’s under-the-table royalty free agreement.

Q: Didn’t George sue a bunch of artists back in the day over sampling?
A: No. That was Armen Boladian (Bridgeport Music).

Q: Was George in favor of these lawsuits?
A: No. In fact he tried to testify on behalf of the artists being sued in order to expose Bridgeport’s questionable business practices. Every time the case was dropped before George could take the stand.

Q: What master recordings does George own?
A: The Funkadelic albums: Hardcore Jollies, One Nation Under A Groove, Uncle Jam Wants You, and The Electric Spanking of War Babies. These were won back in 2005. At that time the court stated as reasoning for the delay in George being recognized as owner, ‘This case is about scandalous managers, corrupt attorneys, and uninformed judges.’

Q: Who seem to be the main culprits in the scheme to divert/steal P-Funk copyrights and royalties?
A: Armen Boladian, NeNe Montes, Universal, and BMI.

Q: What is Malbiz?
A: George’s publishing company, which he no long has control of, featuring a valuable catalog of songs.

Q: Who is responsible for cutting P-Funk writers their royalty checks?
A: Bridgeport Music.

Q: What evidence is there of Universal and Bridgeport Music’s royalty free agreement?
A: Bridgeport’s own court filings. They omit Universal’s name, but have no problem naming every other record label involved.

Q: The Humpty Dance, a song that sampled Parliament, has itself been sampled heavily. Who is owed royalties in that situation?
A: Shock G is. He had no idea about the sampling or the royalties due him.

Q: What happened to all the sampling money made back in the day? Isn’t this Black Eyed Peas lawsuit just about greed?
A: P-Funk never saw most of the money due them. The BEP lawsuit is about getting those what is rightfully theirs and educating people on the realities of the music industry.

Q: Why did George take so long to sue BEP? The original version of Shut Up came out in 2003.
A: He wasn’t aware of the sampling until 2009 when their people began pushing for a deal to clear the sample for a new release.

Q: Did George sign a contract allowing the usage of Knee Deep in any version of Shut Up?
A: No.

Q: What makes George sure BEP have already paid money to someone for the Knee Deep sample?
A: Armen wouldn’t have let them get away with not paying for it this long.

Q: When Geoprge talked with will.i.am did he tell him about Universal and Bridgeport’s royalty free agreement?
A: No. George didn’t know about it then.

Q: Why did George want to make a deal directly with will.i.am?
A: To make sure the right people were getting paid and save BEP money.
